September 11th- 10 year memorial-NYC

Last year on 9-11 I had only been a NYC resident for 10 days... I spent the day walking the Brooklyn Bridge and stumbled across some amazing opportunities for cityscapes, on the Brooklyn side looking back at the tribute lights. This year I knew I wanted to capture more 9-11 tribute images, but was not sure what to expect. I decided to start the adventure at ground zero; I have documented the crowds of people grieving, remembering, and in prayer as a community. I also ventured through Trinity Church, which is a September 11th remembrance year round. This church was refuge to the fire fighters, police officers and other special forces, that fought for our country that tragic day. Since workers would sleep in their gear, the pews within this historic church were since removed and it houses many images and memorials for the victims of 9-11-01. Outside of Trinity Church were thousands of ribbons tied to the fence with messages from people who had visited the site today. I then trucked back to the heart of ground zero to catch a glimpse of the new fountain memorial, unfortunately I was unable to view this portion without special credentials, BUT I did find one of the most touching services I have ever been witness to. There were hundreds of fire fighters gathered from all over the country, along with bag pipers and family members of those who had lost loved ones. They marched, and the music was absolutely breathtaking. It was hard to photograph at moments because of the tears I was holding back. Following this, I walked the Brooklyn Bridge in order to capture the tribute lights from the promenade. I can say this, I am proud to be an American, and proud of how NYC comes together as a family to grieve with each other, I am a better person for being a part of the evening.

Although we never met... We remember the victims of September 11th, 2001.
